Rinne holds down fort in Preds 4-1 victory

The Nashville Predators defeated the Colorado Avalanche by a 4-1 score on Tuesday night at Pepsi Center. Nashville got goals from Nick Spaling, Ryan Ellis and Martin Erat in the first period to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Ryan O'Reilly would put the Avalanche on the board in the second period, but Patric Hornqvist scored the dagger goal in the third period to finish off the 4-1 Predators victory.

Pekka Rinne stopped 32 out of 33 shots in the game after the Avalanche only put up six shots in the first period. Rinne was especially brilliant in the second period when he was able to stop 17 out of 18 Colorado shots.

With the win, Rinne improves to 21-11-4 on the year. He's really been on a roll as of late, winning four out of his last five games. His play is going to be absolutely crucial to Nashville's success this season.

Ryan Ellis seems to be finding his comfort zone on the power play. He's had a two-point game in two consecutive games, and it's clear that he has a great shot. His two goals have been really impressive slapshots from almost the same exact spot on the ice. As a whole, Nashville's power play unit is much more complete when he and Roman Josi are on the second pairing.

Jerred Smithson missed the game with an undisclosed lower-body injury. He's listed as day-to-day. The Avalanche and Predators will meet up once again on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Bridgestone Arena.
