All-Star festivities begin with Thursday's fantasy draft

The 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft will kick off the 2012 NHL All-Star weekend on Thursday night in Ottawa. Daniel Alfredsson and Zdeno Chara will choose the members of their respective teams in a style that was pretty popular with the fans last year.

Each team will consist of 12 forwards, six defensemen and three goaltenders. The 12 rookies in attendance will be split into two separate groups of six. After the 15th round of the Fantasy Draft is completed, one rookie will be asked to choose which team his group wants to join.

Ryan Suter and Shea Weber will both likely be taken fairly early in the Fantasy Draft. Weber will more than likely be chosen by Team Alfredsson rather early in the draft to set up the showdown between he and Chara in the Hardest Shot competition. It will be interesting to see if Suter and Weber end up on the same team, or whether they are playing against each other.

The All-Star weekend is designed to put on a good show for the fans and to allow the players to have fun in a more relaxed environment. The 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft will be televised on the NBC Sports Network at 7 p.m. central time.
