Preds to face young talent in Edmonton

The Nashville Predators(2-1-1) face off against the Edmonton Oilers(1-1-1) on Monday night at 8:30 p.m. central time in Edmonton. Compared to the majority of the NHL, Edmonton had moderate success against the Predators last year. The Oilers won two out of the four games.

Nashville is coming off of a 3-2 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils in a game that they led 2-0 after two periods of play. The Predators have gathered five out of a possible eight points to open the season.

Edmonton lost to the defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night by a score of 4-3. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, first pick of the 2011 NHL Draft, recorded his first career hat trick on Saturday night against the Canucks. Edmonton has gathered three out of a possible six points to open the season.

Both teams really need this win to get back on the right track. Nashville opened the season with two road wins, but then lost both of their next two home games. The Oilers won their opening game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but have not won either game since. Both teams will be coming hard out of the gate.

My player to watch for the Predators is Colin Wilson. Wilson was all around the net against New Jersey, and played arguably the best overall game of his young NHL career. Look for him to get on the score sheet again tonight.

For Edmonton, my player to watch is Jordan Eberle. Just like a lot of players on this young Oilers team, Eberle has a lot of skill. He's a skilled passer and has great hands. Look for Eberle to be a force tonight against the Predators.
