Preds start regular season in Columbus

The Nashville Predators will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night at 6 p.m. central time in Columbus. This is the regular season opener for both teams, and it's the first time the two teams have met for the season opener in history.

Last year, the Predators posted a 4-2-0 record against the Blue Jackets. Both of those two losses, however, came on the road.

Columbus added Jeff Carter and James Wisnewski in the off season to improve their team. Wisnewski won't be playing in this game due to a suspension, but Carter will. He's a great player, and will make Rick Nash even more of threat. The Predators will certainly need to keep an eye on that top line.

For Nashville, my player to watch is Martin Erat. Erat had five points in the season series with Columbus last year, and has 42 career points against them. That is more points than he has against any other team in the league.

The Blue Jackets don't like Nashville and will be looking to set the tone for the season on opening night. Expect an ugly, hard fought game. I think Nashville prevails and wins the game 3-2.

The game will be televised on Fox Sports Tennessee, as will every road game this season.
