Preds send message; Knock off St. Louis

You can have all the hype in the world. The only thing that matters is the result on the ice. That's the message the Nashville Predators sent to St. Louis on Saturday night, winning the game by a 4-2 score.

Rookie Craig Smith kept his stellar play going, adding another goal and two assists to his early season production. David Legwand also had a great game, racking up two goals and two assists on the night.

Pekka Rinne was solid once again in net for the Predators. He stopped 31 out of 33 shots on the night.

St. Louis got on the board first when Patrik Berglund one-timed a shot past Rinne on a play that wasn't defended well at all by the Predators. However, Nashville would respond on the power play when Smith backhanded one past Jaroslav Halak.

The scoring would cease until the 3rd period when Legwand banked the puck off of a body in front of the net and past Halak. Former Nashville captain Jason Arnott would quickly respond for the Blues, however, and tie the game at two.

Kevin Klein took matters into his own hands just 57 seconds later, and wristed one past Halak to give the Predators a lead they would not relinquish. Legwand added another empty net goal, and the Predators left St. Louis with a perfect opening weekend.

Make no mistake, these two wins by Nashville sent a message to Columbus and St. Louis. While they may have made a few moves in the offseason, they will still have to show up and play extremely well if they hope to compete with the Predators.

1 comment:

  1. Kevin Klein scored the best goal of the first two games in my opinion. I'm glad the Preds came out of opening weekend with 4 points. Hope they can keep it up.
