The Nashville Predators have an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth on Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena when the Atlanta Thrashers come to town. With a win and a Dallas loss of any kind, the Predators would clinch their 6th playoff berth in 7 years.
This is the second and final meeting between Atlanta and Nashville this year. The Thrashers took the first game by a 3-2 score in overtime. The Preds had a 2-0 lead at one point in that game, but allowed the Thrashers to come back and win on a Zach Bogosian overtime goal. Bogosian followed that goal with a failed celebration when he flipped over on his back.
Nashville and Atlanta aren't overly familiar with each other, but this is the 3rd straight season that they have been each other's "wildcard" opponent. The Thrashers have been eliminated from playoff contention in the Eastern Conference, but they will still be ready to play.
Atlanta is coming off of a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins, and have alternated wins and losses in the last 10 games. If that trend were to continue, Atlanta is due for a win. The Predators will be looking to end that trend.
After Saturday's loss to the Red Wings, the Predators will be looking to rebound and get back on the winning track. The stakes are high with a possible playoff berth at stake, and 4th place in the Western Conference well within reach.
On paper, this is a team that Nashville should beat. Of course, hockey isn't a game that is played on paper. It's a game that's played on the ice. It could be a historical night in Nashville, so be sure to tune in to SportSouth at 7:00 if you're not going to the game.
