Game Preview: Preds Must Beat Avalanche

The Nashville Predators play host to the Colorado Avalanche tonight at Bridgestone Arena in the second game of a five game homestand. The Avalanche are coming off of a 6-2 loss to Anaheim Friday night, while Nashville is coming off of a 4-0 victory over Minnesota on Thursday night.

Nashville got back on the winning track against the Wild on Thursday night, but that trend has to continue if they want to reach the postseason. Simply winning one and then losing one isn't going to cut it anymore. Having said that, the Preds have a very beatable opponent tonight in Colorado.

The only thing that means is that Nashville has to come out with the same focus and intensity they did on Thursday night against Minnesota. Currently, the Predators sit in 10th place in the Western Conference with 78 points. There is no way the Preds can move into the top 8 with a win tonight, but they can put themselves within a point of the Flames, Coyotes, Kings, and Blackhawks.

Colorado has been struggling of late, going 1-7-2 in their last 10 games. They are currently in the middle of a 7 game losing streak, going 0-6-1 in their last seven games. However, they have the offensive talent to explode with players like Matt Duchene, Paul Stastny and Milan Hedjuk.

The Predators have won both of the previous meetings between the two teams this year(5-1 in Colorado and 5-3 in Nashville on February 12th). This one, however is more important for Nashville and they must come out strong.

Prediction: This is the perfect setup for a trap game for Nashville. However, I think they're going to come out focused and ready to go. Nashville wins the game 4-2.
