One night, you shutout the Central Division leading Detroit Red Wings and then 48 hours later you get shutout by the worst team in the Western Conference. That pretty much sums up the season so far by the Preds. They've been wildly inconsistent all year and that HAS GOT to stop.
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Nashville Predators 4-0 in front of 14,388 at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators were outshooting the Oilers 12-1 in the 1st period, but the Oilers survived and went on to rout the Preds.
Pekka Rinne was in goal tonight and obviously was not sharp. However, the defense in front of him was even worse. Alexander Sulzer was a minus-3, Cody Franson was torched repeatedly, and only three Predators(Ryan Suter, Nick Spaling, and J.P. Dumont) finished the game with an even rating. Anders Lindback came in after it was 4-0 and stopped the only two shots he faced.
The inconsistency is ridiculous. There is never a good excuse for letting the last place team in the Western Conference shut you out in your building. There is never and excuse for losing 4-0 at home period.
As one of my friends(who happens to be a Detroit fan) pointed out to me on Saturday night, if the Preds played like they were playing the Red Wings every game they would be fine. They nearly always play a complete game against them. Tonight, they just didn't get it done. Defensively they weren't good and offensively they weren't good.
The best thing you can do with this game is learn from it and then throw it out of the window. Luckily, we play Detroit on Wednesday night. Hopefully that will mean the same good effort we're used to seeing out of the Preds when they play Detroit. Puck drop will be around 6:30
